It is a large shrub or small tree, tall in 5 m, the stems covered by soft hairs. The leaves are oppositely arranged, green, young leaves are violet, along the stems composed of 3 linear leaflets, and sized 12 cm in length, the lower surface is grayish green. The flowers are born in clusters, grow up to 18 cm in length. Flowers are purple to violet, and 5 mm long. The fleshy fruits are approximately 6 mm in diameter and contain small black seeds.
