Peacock Flower – Caesalpinia pulcherrima (Linn.) Swartz – is a shrub growing to the height of 3 m tall, some are armed with thorns. The leaves are bipinnate, up to 40 cm long, bearing about 3 to 10 pairs of pinnae, leaflets 15 to 25 mm long. The flowers are in clusters are borne in racemes, length up to 20 cm, yellow, orange or red in colour. The fruit is a pod 6 to 12 cm long.
