Panchalavanam-The Combination of Five salts

1. Sindava Lavana 

Saindhava – which is found in the Punjab (Sindh region) area

Other names 

English-Himalayan salt 

Tamil/Malayalam – Intuppu

Chemical composition: Sodium chloride (98%) and a combination of Iodine, Lithium, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Chromium, Manganese, Iron, Zinc and Strontium.

2. Sauvarchala lavana

It is obtained from Halite ore from mines.

English-Black Salt

Malayalam-Kariyuppu

Chemical composition: Sodium Chloride, Sodium Sulphide, Iron

3. Vidalavana

Vida means artificially created. It is prepared artificially by using excreta of goat, cow, camel, sheep

Chemical composition: Sodium chloride. with Sodium sulphate, Alumina, magnesia, Ferric Oxide and Ferric Sulphide.

4. Samudra Lavana

Sea salt

Samudra is the Sanskrit word for Sea, and it is avail from seawater, canalized, and Sun-dried.

Chemical composition; Sodium chloride with magnesium, potassium, calcium and sulphate.

5. Audbhida Lavana

It is a mixture of  alkaline and salt

It is prepared from alkaline soil and it is dirty-colored and found in dry areas
