Njavarakizhi is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that originated in India. It is a rejuvenating treatment known for its therapeutic effects on the body. The word “Njavarakizhi” is derived from two Malayalam words: “Njavara” (a special variety of rice) and “Kizhi” (pouch).
During the Njavarakizhi treatment, a mixture of cooked Njavara rice, milk, and certain herbal decoctions is tied into cloth pouches to form boluses. These boluses are then dipped in warm medicated oil and applied all over the body or specific areas experiencing discomfort or pain.
The process involves a synchronized massaging technique along with the gentle application of these heated rice pouches. The therapy helps in improving blood circulation, relieving muscle stiffness, nourishing the skin, and detoxifying the body.
Njavarakizhi is particularly recommended for conditions like arthritis, muscular pain, and certain neurological disorders. It is believed to balance the body’s doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and promote overall well-being. However, it’s important to note that any Ayurvedic therapy should be undertaken under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.
