It is a Western Ghats deciduous tree, grows up to 30 m high; bark brown, branches spreading. Leaves tri-foliate, 4 to 8 inches in size, alternately arranged, up to 18 cm and 9 cm broad, elliptic, elliptic-ovate, orbicular, base round, apex acuminate, margin serrate, glabrous, slender, prominent, reticulated and faint. Flowers are green, born in the axillary. Fruit is a berry, globose, reddish-brown in color, 1.3 cm across; 6 to 8 seeded, oblong, trigonous, borne in clusters.
